Diary Of A Dentist #2 : Bride To Be Badge
Posted by Ling on June 16, 2010
Dear Dental Diary
I remember when I was a child and I went to the Dentist’s and they always rewarded me with a sticker? I loved those stickers. So, one of my dental nurses – Mrs Active – brought in a hot pink rosette badge which says “BRIDE TO BE” and a pink tiara AND a pink feather boa for me to wear at work until I get married. (I have named her Mrs Active because she is in her fifties, but she is SO energetic and goes to the gym about 10 hours a week! She has to be my favouritest nurse ever because she lent me her flatscreen TV/DVD and has driven me to look at flowers, etc. She is AMAZING! Thank you Mrs Active!)
Anyway, I never got stickers when I went to the Doctor’s. I only got the wooden stick stuck down my throat – say “AAHH!” and that cold stethoscope stuck under my top around my non-developed breasts, i.e. nipple buds. I hated going to the Doctor’s. I still do. As part of the Dental Community team in Melbourne, we are getting offered free vaccinations for the common flu and swine flu. The side effects of the swine flu vaccine include fever and feeling flu-ish. We are supposed to get jabbed on Friday – but that’s the day before the wedding…OUR wedding…so I managed to postpone it till next week.
The funniest thing is everyone at work is surprised I am going back to work on the Monday. “Aren’t you going away for a few days? Not going to take a few days off?” Even the random nurse I spoke to on the phone regarding my vaccinations asked me the same question.
Let me explain one more time. The wedding on Saturday is just the R.O.M. = registration of marriage. The signing of the papers. The legal side of things. Yes, officially, we will be married. But we will not be co-habiting till after the August church ceremony wedding in UK.
I am still working today. It is my lunch break. Wish I wasn’t here because I still have so many things to do, e.g. buy jewellery. But then I remembered why I am here…5 letter word. Brings with M and ends in Y.
Signing off,
Dentist Ling
