GUY-Dar

Posted by Ling on March 20, 2004

Today, I had an interview and afterwards, my mum and I went to the Chinese supermarket.

My eyes quickly scanned the supermarket.  I possess the extraordinary powers of what I like to call – “GUY-dar”

“GUY-dar” = if I see a fit guy, my eyes automatically zoom in for a closer inspection

There was a faint signal near the section where my mum was heading.  There was a Chinese guy there wearing a tight t-shirt to show off his muscles.

My mum wanted this heavy box of ‘chinese stuff’, so she yelled out to Mr Muscles to give a hand.

He came over to help out and I ogled his rippling biceps (hey, I’m single, I’m allowed to look!!)

Mum : Mr Muscles, this is my oldest daughter, Ling

Mr Muscles : Hiya

Me : Er..nice to meet you.. (half expecting to extend my hand out to shake his hand cos I’ve been doing that all week for interviews)

Mr Muscles : So where do you work?

I paused for a few seconds – what a weird question! People always ask me what I study, not where I work.  I was puzzled till I remembered that I was wearing “interview work gear”.

Me : I’m graduating next year as a dentist…

Mr Muscles : Oh right (and gave me a smile)

Mum : What do you mean next year??  It’s in a couple of months time!!

Me : Oh yeahhhh!!

Mum : Oh come on Ling! (and turns her head to Mr Muscles) She gets like that when she meets guys.  She’s single so when she meets a guy, she gets all shy….blah blah blah…(I was so embarrassed I didn’t hear the rest of what she said!)

In conclusion : I am SO NOT going back to that supermarket!
