I Called 999

Posted by Ling on March 11, 2004

If you didn’t know, my two younger sisters stay with me in Dundee, 1.5 hours away from our family home in Glasgow, because we all attend the same university (yes, they followed me here).

Anyway, Sis 2, aged 19, did not come home last night!!  She went out partying with her friends and with my car, Koyoti.  At 5am, I was frantically worried.  I called her mobile phone endlessly with no success.  I called all her friends – nothing.  In the end, I called 999 – the police!!

The police will not acknowledge that a person is missing until they have been absent for a minimum of 24 hours.

Eventually, at 7am, I got a text message from Sis 2 saying she would be home  at 10am!!!

And then I called my Mum.  I didn’t have a choice really because I feel that this behaviour from my sister is totally unacceptable.  But guess who got in trouble?  ME!!!

Me for introducing her to the concept of parties.
Me for allowing her to go out.
Me for introducing her to the concept of alcohol.
Me, me, me!!

All I can say is, I was 19 once and I did a lot of stupid things.  I dibbled and dabbled in stuff I shouldn’t have, but with no-one here to keep an eye on me, I got away with a lot of stuff…but I am NOT proud of it.  I cannot change my past so I have learnt to accept it and move on.

But Sis 2 is in a different situation.  While she is studying here and we are living together, I am responsible for her actions.

I am glad that she is not lying dead in a gutter, but at the same time, I am scared she’ll end up doing stupid things.  Sigh.
