I Miss My Mum
Posted by Ling on October 5, 2005
My Mum has gone to Hong Kong. I have been left in charge of 3 young brothers and a troublesome teenager, aka Sis 4. I have gone from big sister to single mother slash full-time dentist!!
I must haul my ass out of bed every morning to make breakfast and pack the boys’ lunches and then do the school run (8.08am). Afterwards, I either have 8.30/9.30am start at work.
Some days I work til 7pm so I can’t pick the kids up from school. Luckily, Sis 4, the lazy university student, has lots of free time and so, she is actually a major help.
Bro 5, 6 and 7 all have extracurricular activities – rugby, piano, violin, beavers, cubs, scouts – all on different days. ARGH!!!!
Then there is shopping for groceries, cooking dinner, and other housework…
Well, my Dad is still around, but he works in the takeaway so we don’t really see him, and I don’t expect him to do the housework. Anyway, the housework is piling up as I type.
Summed up in four words :- I MISS MY MUM!
In times like this, it makes me NOT want to have 6 kids…but perhaps, 4…??
I am also finding it hard to maintain my spiritual life, social life and love life.
Although I sound as if I’m complaining, I’m actually enjoying it (kinda). Helping the kids do their homework and listening to their stories about what happened at school….you know, you have to experience it to know what I mean…
Thank God for families.

hey ling!! i know what you mean by that.
Actually, i was in that position in my last 2 years at school… i looked after my brother and cooked his dinner and do some of the house work. Simplyu because my parents own’s a chinese. However, I simply know how you feel. Having to get out of bed etc etc. i still pick my brother up from school if i can that is. It’s a great time to chat to him and catch up with what he’s been up to in school

Yeah hard going sometimes but it just somethin u need to do. Your serving God right? Ie experienced it b4 havin 3 little sis and 1 little bro. I cooked, did the dishes and hoovered once a wk when Lorraine left for uni. Played pc games with my little bro. It was Jess who put John and Grace to bed. Had a troublesome sibling namin Vicky (well sometimes). Stopped Jess and Vicky fightin. Parent worked at takeaway. Felt like a woman. Don do it as much now coz I stayin in Glas now. So relieved but a little part of me misses stayin with my family. Jess and Vicky does that now. Will be staying at home 4 a while during the Oct hols cos Jess is going to Fra and parents and the smallest one are going to Spain for a wk and they need a responsible adult in the house to look after John and Vicky.
