I Want To Be A Freelance Writer

Posted by Ling on January 27, 2011

I used to be slightly embarrassed about being  a blogger.  Some people still give the odd sniggers and digs.  Excuse me, but bloggers are credible people too!  And there are famous bloggers out there who have made millions because of blogging, so who’s having the last laugh?  (Note – I have not even earned $50 AUD yet – but that’s because I do not flood my blogs with adverts!)

Recently, a friend (yes, you!) told me, “You’d better NOT blog about what just happened!” and it almost killed me.  I mainly blog about me and my experiences, but if I mention anyone, they have aliases.  But also, if it’s a really dangerous topic about someone with an obvious alias, I will incorporate it into my blog in an extremely subtle manner, e.g. hidden messages.  I am not here to blab about anyone’s secrets so please do not panic!  For example, I could easily blog about the secret I found out about that person, but I won’t.  I choose my words carefully.
(Note – Stories about ex-boyfriends and Hubby do not count because if they want to date or marry me, they have to endure me blogging about them!  Hah!)

On the other hand, I also have amazing supportive people around me who encourage me to blog. “You should blog about this, you should blog about that!” But sadly, I lack the ability to blog about personal stuff if my blogging juices are not flowing.  For example, I could easily tell you about what I did on our recent holidays in Malaysia – but that’s kinda boring and you are not here to read that I visited Mount Kinabalu and we ate this and saw that, blah, blah.
(Note – Please do not get me wrong, there are bloggers out there who blog about what they did from 7am to midnight and I have no problems with them – in fact, I read many of those blogs…I just don’t possess the blogging juices to blog in that style.)

Anyway, I just wanted to inform you all that I still have the same dream that I had when I started this blog – I want to write a bestselling book!  Finding a dentist job has not been as easy as planned, but I have just applied for THREE freelance writing jobs!  Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me.

One of the freelance writing jobs is for a dating website – and we all know how I love to dish out dating advice.  In fact, they asked for samples of my work, so I gave them The First Fart In A Relationship and How To Get Over A Break-Up.

But do you know what my two most popular blog posts are?  They are not even related to dating!  It is my Review On Tiger Airways followed by Why Do Dentists Have The Highest Suicide Rate.  They aren’t my favourite pieces of writing, but hey, they get a lot of hits!

What is your favourite blog post from me?  Please leave your answer in the comments.  (Yes, comments –  something a blogger loves receiving!  Sometimes it feels like I am writing to nobody!!!)
