IQ vs EQ

Posted by Ling on February 12, 2004

Intelligent Quotient (IQ) is defined as a measure of a person’s intelligence as indicated by an intelligence test

Environmental Quotient (EQ) is defined as  a measure of a person’s intelligence to the environment i.e. level of “street-wise-ness”

(please note that I made up the definition of EQ as there doesn’t seem to be something that exists…)

My friends have described me as smart and clever, but not street-wise at all.

The IQ side of my brain is very receptive but unfortunately, the EQ side is totally defunct!

My dental knowledge is reasonably good.  I enjoy mathematics and science.  But my general knowledge is very poor and common sense isn’t really that common…

For example, I thought tigers were female lions…oops!

As it has been snowing recently, I decided to wear boots to walk to University.

I thought – snow, boots.

I didn’t think – snow, walk uphill, 4-inch heeled pointy-toed boots equals a big NO-NO!

I was walking up the hill to University when I bumped into some classmates.

This guy said, “Hi Ling, great boots!”

I thought, “Ooh, compliment!” till I remembered the sound of sarcasm.

Yes, I skidded and fell over 5 times!
