I’ve Known Him For One Year!

Posted by Ling on October 31, 2010

Finally, I can say that I’ve known my Husband for one year!  Yes, dear readers, I met the Husband (or Mr Dorky) one year ago today.  Can you believe that we married within a year of knowing each other?  It sounds like a crazy love story!  Sometimes, I cannot believe how it all happened.

It all started in 2008 – remember when I hinted to you all in this blog post that I had “a few things up my sleeve”? God had already told me when I was recovering from my mystery 3-month illness that I was going to leave UK.  But it was hard to convince my parents to let me go travelling as I had been ill.

Anyway, after much prayer and signs from God, I was ready and when I told you all via this blog, a lot of you were shocked and even my closest friend, Mr Shrek, was not convinced that I would last on my own, travelling to foreign countries.

It is truly amazing but it was all part of God’s plans.  He is in control.  I know a number of my readers and friends are struggling with relationships or finding the One.  But it is important to know that being in a relationship or being married does not define you!  There is more to life than sitting around and thinking about your future partner.  Seriously.  If I had not got off my butt and left everything behind in UK, I would never be where I am today.  I would still be sitting around at home in Glasgow and stalking people on Facebook!  Anyway, don’t worry about your future partner – God is in control!!!!

I have gone slightly off tangent about what I was going to write about originally…so let’s get back on track.

So, exactly one year ago, I met Mr Dorky in Manly at this precise moment, while Mr Pistol was taking a photo of Ms JJ and I :-

He looked like this :

He came from Melbourne to Sydney to visit our mutual friend, Ms JJ.  She had pre-warned Mr Pistol and I beforehand.  ”When my friend arrives, just ignore him because he talks A LOT!

There were 12 of us hanging around Manly beach and enjoying the sunshine.

What did I think of him on the first day I met him?

I thought – “He looks like a gnome with his rosy cheeks!” and “What a ponce!”  This is because for lunch, we all ordered greasy fried fish and chips except him – he ordered grilled fish, instead of the greasy batter affair.  And then, when we went to a Bavarian beer cafe, we all ordered beer, but he had a glass of wine.  Poncey or what?!  And then when he drank his poncey wine, his rosy red cheeks went even redder!

What did he think of me on the first day he met me?

He thought I was lame.  Because of the lame Ling joke.

Me :  ”So, if this is Manly beach – where’s the Girly beach?

It wasn’t love at first sight…

It may not have been love at first sight.  But he knew there was something special about me and he returned to Melbourne a couple of days later and told his best friend that he had met the One.  Awww….swoon!

And I thought he was a chivalrous guy!  And he is!  (Although, he has stopped opening car doors for me – pah!!!)

Happy one year of knowing you!  Much love!
