Dentist Wannabe

Posted by Ling on March 1, 2004

Studying to be a dentist is really difficult.

First of all, you need to get the all important grades to apply for university – I got 5 A’s in my Scottish Highers.  (yes, I am boasting here)

I used to play truant a lot when I was at school, but I still passed my exams.  But not in university.  A lot of studying is required.

Not only must a dentist have studious abilities, but you also have to be good a practical work, i.e. clinical work.

I got awarded a grade 5 from my clinical tutor for a clinical assessment (we are graded from 1-8; 8 being the best) recently and the comment I received was “I can see that you are still struggling a bit with patients…”

Some dental consultants have awarded me with grade 8′s, but this particular tutor has only given me average grades.  Sigh.  I must work harder and push myself!!

Everyone is gifted in some way.  My mum says this about me, “You’re intelligent but you’re useless at everything else!”

Haha.  It’s kinda true because I know what to study to pass exams, but my brain does not absorb any other information.

This is going to be a busy month of not only studying, but deciding where I want to work after I graduate.

In conclusion :  My IQ wins over EQ!

Blogaholic

Posted by Ling on February 27, 2004

A blogaholic is defined as someone who is addicted to anything blog-related

Alcoholics have AA meetings for their alcoholic addiction.
Blogaholics have their blogs to express their blogaholic addiction!

My name is Ling Tung and I am proud to be a blogaholic!

I was speaking to one of my friends recently – Miss QQ.  Miss QQ told me that she is a subscriber of my blog.  I was so happy.  She said she enjoyed my blog writing style and I shared that as a young girl, my aspiration was to be a writer.

In fact, I have written a few short stories.  But I burned them after typing them out.  Don’t ask me why.

Hopefully, one day I will write and publish a book and it will become a bestseller.  As for now, I am satisfied with blogging and getting more subscribers.

Born To Be Driven

Posted by Ling on February 20, 2004

I bought a car 6 months ago – a yellow Volkswagen Polo.  It’s a hot female named Koyoti.

I only got my driving licence last year after taking lessons forever but I passed first time.  In fact, I was deadly intent on passing first time simply because my younger sister, Sis 2 passed her driving test before me!

Sis 2 sat her driving test and then phoned me :-

Sis 2 : Hey, I failed…
Me : Oh no!  What happened?
(but secretly, I was PLEASED!!)
Sis 2 :  I’m only joking!  I PASSED!!
Me : Oh…YAY!!!
(Noooooooo!!!)

I am a competitive person when it comes to sibling rivalry!!  I always want to be the best at everything.  I am a bad ass sister!!!

Anyway, I got my licence and bought a car, but my driving skills are still not up to scratch.

The other day, I held up the queue in a car park because I didn’t know how to reverse and manoeuvre the car.  In the end, the driver behind me got out of his car, came into my car and helped me drive the car out of the tight spot.  There were about 20 cars honking me.

In conclusion : I was born to be driven!

Valentine’s Day 2004

Posted by Ling on February 15, 2004

Valentine’s Morning

This was spent preening myself for a more-not-than-hot date with my guy friend Mr SW.  Platonic friendships do exist!  He travelled from Edinburgh to Dundee to visit me and my sisters, Sis 2 and Sis 3.  (Yes, the 3 of us study in Dundee and live together.  It means sister-fights galore!)  I even removed my chipped toe nail polish which was painted in 2003 – yuk!

Valentine’s Lunch

A good old steak and ale pie from the local pub up the road.  All 4 of us ate that.

Valentine’s Shopping

I bought a new mobile phone.   Mr SW thought that I was spending unnecessarily but I was in a “I’m a spoilt princess and I can buy what I want with my own money” mood.

Valentine’s Entertainment

We pushed the boat out went to the cinema (please note the tone of sarcasm here).  We watched The School of Rock starring Jack Black as a music teacher.  There’s a funny part in the film where Jack Black tells the children’s parents “Your kids touched me and I’m sure I touched them too!” This was hilarious except for the fact that I was slow and got the joke 2 minutes later after all the laughter had subsided!!!  Everyone else was concentrating on the next part of the film but I couldn’t stop giggling.  I had to control myself when Sis 3 gave me a“you’re-so-embarrassing-stop-laughing-now” look.

Valentine’s Evening

Mr SW headed home to watch football even though my sisters used all their powers of persuasion.  My sisters headed out to party in the clubs.  I’m too old for that these days!!  I stayed in with my new phone and a 2-litre tub of vanilla ice-cream – a hot evening date with my phone, ice-cream and the TV – what more can a girl ask for??

IQ vs EQ

Posted by Ling on February 12, 2004

Intelligent Quotient (IQ) is defined as a measure of a person’s intelligence as indicated by an intelligence test

Environmental Quotient (EQ) is defined as  a measure of a person’s intelligence to the environment i.e. level of “street-wise-ness”

(please note that I made up the definition of EQ as there doesn’t seem to be something that exists…)

My friends have described me as smart and clever, but not street-wise at all.

The IQ side of my brain is very receptive but unfortunately, the EQ side is totally defunct!

My dental knowledge is reasonably good.  I enjoy mathematics and science.  But my general knowledge is very poor and common sense isn’t really that common…

For example, I thought tigers were female lions…oops!

As it has been snowing recently, I decided to wear boots to walk to University.

I thought – snow, boots.

I didn’t think – snow, walk uphill, 4-inch heeled pointy-toed boots equals a big NO-NO!

I was walking up the hill to University when I bumped into some classmates.

This guy said, “Hi Ling, great boots!”

I thought, “Ooh, compliment!” till I remembered the sound of sarcasm.

Yes, I skidded and fell over 5 times!

Arachnaphobia

Posted by Ling on February 9, 2004

Arachnaphobia is defined as an abnormal fear of spiders

Argh!  I hate spiders!  I was tidying up my room on Saturday night (yes, what a riveting weekend), and out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move.

It was a huge freakin’ spider!  It was not the typical black eight-legged freak, but it was brown and it was one of the biggest beasts ever!

I was too scared to scream.  It started to crawl near my slipper and before I could faint, I lifted up my right foot, encased in my cute pink slipper, and proceeded to squish the living daylights of the arachnid.

The corpse laid there for 10 seconds and I just stared at it blankly.

I was in disbelief, because I, Ling Tung, aged 20-something, killed a massive spider without squealing in fear!  An achievement!  Maybe I am growing up at last…

Afterwards, I removed the rotting, squashed up remains with a tissue – WITHOUT wearing any gloves.

I was so proud of myself…but then another 10 seconds lapsed and only then, did I go mental!!!

What have I done??  GROSS!!!!!!!  EEEKS!!!  ARGH!!!

I rushed off and took a shower to cleanse away the essence of the hairy creep.  Never again will that be repeated!  Killing a spider, not taking a shower!
