Food That I Made

Posted by Ling on February 24, 2011

This may come as a shock, considering that I am not a naturally gifted domestic goddess – check out my epic fail at making chocolate chip cookies. But I have been practising so here’s some food that I made :-

Strawberries & Cream Sponge Cake

I even have a YouTube video of it! Please don’t laugh! Oh wait, please do…I look like such a dork!

Salt & Pepper Wicked Wings

Baked Eggs with Sardines in a Spicy Tomato Sauce

Banana Bread

Sausages & Roast Potatoes with Salad

I’m HUNGRY now, are you?

How To Choose Wedding Colour Scheme

Posted by Ling on February 22, 2011

Recently, I have been congratulating friends left, right and centre as one by one, they get engaged.  Woohoo!  Anyway, I had always wanted to start a blog about our wedding planning journey, but as you all know, we got engaged and then got married in 2 months in Australia and then 1.5 months after that in UK.  So basically, there was no time to start a new blog nor do a wedding planning scrapbook.  I have to admit that wedding planning was extremely stressful due to the time constraint and distance and having to work at the same time and adapt to a new life in Melbourne.  But thank God for amazing family and friends who helped us throughout our journey.

Anyway, I know we had limited time to do wedding planning so I really had to make quick decisions on everything.  And I made the decision to allow my 4 bridesmaids to choose their dresses in whichever colour and style they wanted.  They chose royal blue.

What?  What?  Royal blue???  I thought that they would pick the typical bridesmaid-sy colours like pink or lilac…but they chose royal blue!  I just didn’t expect that.  But I was okay with it…till I had to choose my bouquet.  I had always wanted pink roses.  I love pink and I love roses.  But I had stumbled upon some wedding forum which said that pink clashes with blue!!  WHAT TO DO???

I didn’t want to be the bride with clashing colours.

I didn’t want people to laugh at me for my bad taste in colour scheme.

I was sleepless for a few days!  Seriously, it affected me that much!  Ask my bridesmaids because I annoyed them for days about this clashing colour scheme!

And then, just like that, I had a brainstorm.  I flicked through all the wedding magazines and cut out pieces which would help me envisage our wedding day and then gathered all of them together.  I made a collage.

And there you have it!  It didn’t look bad.  The colours didn’t clash!  And who cares what stupid wedding forums say anyway.  If I want pink roses for my wedding day, I shall have them!

Tips On How To Choose Wedding Colour Scheme

  • Go with what you want.
  • If you find it hard to envisage, then make a collage with cut-outs from magazines.
  • Ignore the rules on wedding planning from wedding forums.

And once again, congratulations to all those who are engaged!

Sometimes I’m lost for words to describe how I feel.

Make your own photo collage at Photovisi – it was really easy.  Come on, if I can do it, you can do it too.  And best of all, it’s free!  Yay!

Toenail Art

Posted by Ling on February 19, 2011

To achieve this toenail art, you will need the following :-

1.  You have to be bored out of your mind but retain your sense of humour
2.  Get a picture of someone you dislike
3.  Long dirty toenails and a toenail clipper
4.  An assortment of nail polishes
5.  A camera

Method

1.  Take before pictures of toes.

2.  Cut toenails carefully aiming for the person you dislike’s face.  Pat yourself on the back if toenails land on their face!  (And yes, I am proud to be Team Jolie!)

3.  Go crazy with the nail polish.

4.  Sit back and admire your toes and then camwhore your finished toenail art.

3 Kingdoms, Box Hill

Posted by Ling on

My temp dental assistant from Laos recommended 3 Kingdoms so on that very same night, we went there to eat. The place was relatively busy for a Friday night but we got seated quickly. The people sitting in the table next to us were eating something which smelt and looked delicious. I had high hopes for 3 Kingdoms. Their menu had Chinese, Korean and Japanese food.

For starters, we ordered fried dumplings, kimchi pancake and spring onion pancake to share.

Usually korean pancakes are presented in the formation of a round pancake with slices, like a pizza. But this was just plonked onto a rectangular plate. Sadly, the starters weren’t that impressive. Adding to my annoyance was the fact that the starters came out at uncoordinated times, i.e. we’d finish one starter and then sit and wait until the next starter came out.

And then came our mains. Hubby ordered beef bulgogi which was yummy. The meat was well marinaded and was very tasty indeed.

The couple – Minda and Steve – both ordered bibimbap which is stone pot rice with beef and vegetables topped with a fried egg. They seemed to enjoy it.

As for me, I ordered teriyaki fried fish. And boy, it was a long wait before I got my dinner! By the time it had arrived, Steve and Noah had finished their dinner!!!

Was it worth the wait? NO!!! The fish was salty and the sauce was overly sweet = bad combination of flavours. Sigh. I didn’t finish my dinner even though I was hungry from the long wait.

Would I go back to 3 Kingdoms? NO! Service was poor. Long and uncoordinated waiting times.

Missing Home

Posted by Ling on February 17, 2011

My parents came, saw and conquered Melbourne in one week.  Now they are in Hong Kong for a few days before heading back to Scotland.  Friends keep asking why they stayed for such a short while.  This is actually a LONG holiday for them.  They need to go back as they have a business to run and younger kids to take care of.  In fact, they land in UK in the morning and then they start work in a few hours on the same day – crazy or what?

Anyway, I am feeling depressed and uninspired so I apologise for lack of blogs.  I miss my parents like a LOT!  Had this moment when I realised how much my Dad had aged since I last saw him – which was only in November!!  Yes, he had aged significantly over 3 months!  I feel extremely sad that I am so far away from them.  Damn, third day of tears…I am a crybaby!

After saying bye to them at the airport, I was crying…and sobbed out this to the Husband, “I wanna go home!”  He said, “Yes, we are going home.  This is your home now!”  And it made me cry even more!!!  I meant my home HOME!!  If only I could move all my close family members and close friends to Australia…
